Unrequested advice for revolutionaries, artists and lovers

No matter what happens, don’t stop whatever it is that you’re doing. It’s raining cats and dogs. Don't stop. Somebody farts in the room. Don’t stop.

Life is hard but it’ll get harder if you stop what you’re doing. Do not cancel important meetings or events, sing-alongs or dates with friends because it contributes to confusion, mistrust and demoralization.

In addition, it is quite disrespectful to others. Cancelling is only permitted in case of inclement weather or due to medical emergencies.

Do the work

If you want to contribute something meaningful to your surroundings and society at large you have to do the work

There are people who would like to shine in this world without doing the work.

They too have to do the work. One cannot shine without doing the work. Again, do the work. It is all about the work.

Make the work the driving force in your life.  Once in a while, the work can drain you out so take a break. Go for a hike.

And always keep in mind to be respectful to the sacred ground of snakes.

Saying NO

Learn how to say NO.

Say NO to people who want to pick your brain.

Say NO to opportunists.

Say NO to those without integrity.

Say NO to hacks.

Say NO, NO, NO. Repeat 1000 times.

Do not let people and activist organizations overwhelm you with endless “tasks” that go nowhere as they amount to more work that will derail your own valuable work and achieving your goals and the work of your artistic and political accomplices. Hyperpolitics is the illusion of politics. Do not engage with it.

You will thank me for it

DIY aesthetics

Incorporate DIY (Do-It-Yourself) into your vision and work.

DIY allows you to be more creative, to push boundaries and not follow formulaic takes on artistic creation.

For us, DIY means not jumping on the bandwagon. Rejecting the mainstream and boilerplate trends while immersing yourself in the underground. It also means remaining true to yourself.

Doing it your way.

In sum, DIY is punk at its finest.

Collaborate

I cannot emphasise it more: collaboration is key. Find your like-minded people.

Start collaborating small. If it works, keep at it. Keep at it some more.

Collaborate on any art/writing project that has been on your mind for some time but you haven't been able to pursue on your own.

Collaboration enhances the work.

It reduces the heavy load.

Collaboration makes you see life anew as you open up to other people’s perspectives.

There is so much to be said about collaboration but here’s one essential fact: collaboration kills the ego. Realizing that “I am not me without you” is not only a great feeling but an internal earthquake that shakes your comfort zone and shifts your paradigm.
