An international campaign by human rights activists, artists and journalists is underway to free Ramón Esono Ebalé, a dissident artist critical of Equatorguinean Dictator Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Esono Ebalé’s satirical work targets Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his dictatorial regime comprised of his own relatives. In fact, Obiang’s son is the acting Vice President.

Amnesty International reports that “Equatorial Guinean cartoonist and activist, Ramón Esono Ebalé, whose work has been critical of the government has been arrested and detained. He is being held at the Black Beach prison in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. He has not been charged yet.”

Black Beach is a notorious prison where political dissidents suffer torture.

A petition demanding Esono Ebalé release from prison is circulating online.
