Miércoles 27 de mayo, en un día nublado y frió, fuera de temporada, se celebro el décimo aniversario torneo de golf del NSA. Este evento se celebra anualmente para el recaudo de fondos para el programa de becas que otorga la Asociación Nacional de Supermercados . Hasta el día de hoy la asociación ha entregado más de un millón de dólares en becas para estudios universitarios. El año pasado se entregaron más de 80 mil dólares en becas. Las becas se entregan en un evento que se da al final de julio todos los años. Este año tomara lugar en Citifield en Queens, la casa de los Mets de Nueva York.
            El torneo de golf tuvo lugar en el Centennial Golf Club, en Carmel Nueva York. Un lugar de belleza natural que se vio resaltada por la neblina y harineo, clima propicio de campo. El día comenzó con cada participante buscando en la lista de registro cuales eran los equipos y dondeempezarían la jornada. Después de conseguir la información se iba al campo de práctica hasta que llegaran todos los que iban a participar. Luego hubo un concurso de “putt” que ganaría $25,000 de fondos, nadie lo logro pero un participante quedo a centímetros del hoyo, que causo una exaltación entre el publico. Cada quien se fue a su destino y empezó el evento hasta la tarde cuando se reunirían para la hora de cóctel.
            4:00PM - Todos llegarían poco a poco y comenzó la hora de cóctel donde se sirvieron tragos y aperitivos incluyendo un lechón asado. Allí se encontraban todos los participantes y representantes de los patrocinadores. Compañías como Coca Cola, Presidente, Cibao Meats y muchas más. Entre los que pudieron llegar a esta segunda parte del evento se encontraban figuras luminarias de la política como el concejal Miguel Martínez, la concejal Julissa Ferreras y el candidato al senado – posición nueva que surge con propósito de que los Dominicanos en el exterior tengan representación en su país de origen, Rubén Luna. También estuvieron figuras de la televisión como Meri Joel Duran, de Univision 41, y Ramón Aníbal acompañado del productor Javier Linares. Entre conversaciones amenas se fue aproximadamente una hora y media.                     
            6:00PM - Todos se trasladaron a un salón donde se serviría la cena. Al mismo tiempo, tomaría lugar la entrega de premios de una rifa y los trofeos a los más destacados del día en los juegos de golf. De anfitriona se encontraba Meri Joel Duran. Ella habló brevemente de la importante labor que viene desempeñando la NSA otorgando becas para el desarrollo de los jóvenes y nuestra comunidad en general. Entonces le toco el turno a William Rodríguez, el presidente de la asociación, anunció el proyecto que tienen con Univision, llamado NSA Media. NSA Media será un programa televisivo de lo que acontezca con la asociación, al mercado que le presta servicio así como también los asuntos que les afectan a sus miembros y a su comunidad. Se entregaron los premios de la rifa de la cual el premio más grande fue una televisión plasma de 36" pulgadas. Este premio dio de que reírse al haber una pequeña confusión porque habían dos personas con  el mismo nombre y se solucionó con el numero de boleto. Seguido se entregaron los trofeos a los que mas se destacaron en el torneo del día. Con eso como diría un buen refrán Dominicano, ‘se rompió la taza y cada uno pa' su casa’ hasta julio cuando se entregue el fruto de tan buena jornada.

10th Annual NSA Golf Outing

Wednesday May 27, the 10th Annual NSA Golf Outing was celebrated, on an unseasonably cold and cloudy day. This event is celebrated annually to raise funds for the scholarship program that the NSA has in place. To date the NSA scholarship program has given more than one million in scholarships for higher education. Last year more than 80 thousand were handed out in scholarship money. The scholarship prizes are handed out in a special event that is held annually at the end of July. This year the event will take place in Citifield the home of the New York Mets, in Queens.

The golf outing took place at the Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York. It is a place of splendid natural beauty that was enhanced by the light rain and fog, a climate that is proper for the countryside. The day started with every participant looking for their respective teams and starting points. After getting the information they would go to the practice range as they waited on the rest of the participants to get accommodated. Later there would be a putting contest in which $25,000 would be given as funds for the scholarship; no one achieved it but a participant was centimeters away from the hole that caused the exaltation of the public. Following that everyone went to their respective starting points and the event started until the afternoon when there would be cocktail hour.

4:00PM – The people would get back little by little and the cocktail hour started where appetizers and drinks were served including a roasted pig. The participants and representatives of the sponsoring companies such as Coca Cola, Presidente, Cibao Meats and many others were present. Of the people that were able to make it to this second half of the event were luminaries of the political world such as Councilman Miguel Martínez, Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras and a candidate for senate in the Dominican Republic – a new position that comes about with the purpose for Dominicans abroad to have representation in there country of origin, Ruben Luna. There were also television figures such as Meri Joel Duran, of Univision channel 41, and Ramon Anibal accompanied by the producer Javier Linares. Lost in good conversation about an hour and a half lapsed. 

6:00PM – Everyone moved to the dining area where dinner would be served. At the same time, the handing out of prizes from a raffle and the awards to the best performances on the golf course would take place. The host was Meri Joel Duran. She spoke briefly about the great contribution that the NSA had been doing in giving scholarships for the development of our youth and our community in general. She then handed it off to the President of the association, William Rodríguez, who announced the project that the association has with Univision called NSA Media. NSA Media will be a television program that will be about the ongoing events of the association, the market it serves and the problems that affect its members and their communities. The prizes for the raffle were handed out and the biggest one was a 36” plasma TV. This gave rise to a funny situation because there were two people with the same exact name as the winner and the situation was solved with the number of the raffle ticket. Right after the handing out of the trophies for the best performances on the golf course took place. At the end of this the event was over and everyone went home until July when the fruits of such great harvest will be given out.
