Call for Papers: The Researcher: An Interdisciplinary Journal (ISSN 0271-5058) is a peer-reviewed journal published at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, the nation’s 4th largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU). This special issue of The Researcher focuses on Caribbean studies across the disciplines. Often described as the “union of the diverse” (Antonio Benitez-Rojo), the Caribbean’s unique history and relationship with other world powers have resulted in a fascinating but often complicated position within various fields of study. These areas of inquiry include global economics, immigration and politics, education and linguistics, Western culture and history, and the literary imagination. We attempt to add to these areas of knowledge with this issue. We encourage submissions from the humanities, social sciences, or STEM in any area of scholarship related to the Caribbean. We especially welcome submissions from scholars at HBCU’s.
Possible topics include but are not limited to the following: Caribbean identities • Caribbean migration and immigration • Environmental issues • Tourism in the Caribbean • Caribbean literature and film • Caribbean diasporas • Historicizing the Caribbean • Law and politics in the Caribbean • Globalization in the Caribbean context • The black Atlantic and the Caribbean • Economic issues/ history • Labor in the Caribbean • Race, class, gender, and sexuality in Caribbean culture.
Please send a 250-word abstract and a 75-word author bio to email@example.com Oct. 1st 2018. Completed article-length manuscripts will be due February 15, 2019. Manuscripts should be in English, but quotation of primary sources can be in either Spanish or French. Manuscripts should be between 6,000-8,000 words in length with documentation in MLA format. Submit manuscripts to the general editor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All papers will be peer-reviewed in a double-blind peer-review process. Accepted papers will be published in the Summer 2019 issue and will be listed on the special issue webpage. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
